How to Declutter Your Mind & Your Wardrobe

Every January, thousands of Americans go on their yearly diet. And good for them! Unfortunately, most experts think that 80-95% of those dieters will likely gain that weight back.

This fact does explain why it's not uncommon for people, many of them women, to have 3 different sizes in their wardrobe. It also makes for a rather cluttered wardrobe and that cluttered closet is not conducive to creating a new mindset that will help you achieve your goals.

Decluttering As An Act Of Self-Love

Let's say you end up gaining or losing 10-15 pounds and have to wear a different size. Most people when they're not at the weight they want to be feel bad, guilty, or worse, ashamed.

And that shame and guilt can get you stuck in a bad mindset which makes it harder to get back on track. Those motions can have a negative impact on your mental and physical health. And your closet. Here's how:

  • Could lose motivation to continue exercising, eating healthily, or decluttering

  • Could lose confidence in yourself

  • Could start your day off feeling overwhelmed, bummed, and/or angry

  • Could wind up hating every item of clothing you own

So how can decluttering your wardrobe help? No matter what size you are or what's happening in your life, you always deserve to look and feel your best. Having a wardrobe that reflects this inner mindset can greatly help.

How To Declutter Your Closet For Better Mental Health

As you start the decluttering process, set the goal that you want your closet to reflect your life now. Not where it has been or where you'd like it to be. You can always adjust as necessary but it's important to focus on who you are in the present.

And loving and accepting yourself as you are now. Because no matter what you're beautiful and amazing, so celebrate that! If you want to successfully declutter your mind and your wardrobe, start by setting a few healthy boundaries like getting rid of the following:

  • Items that are torn, ripped, or stained

  • Items that you aren't excited to wear

  • Items that don't fit you well

  • Items you haven't worn in over 2 years

  • Items that don't match with anything else

Don't keep items just because they fit. A smaller wardrobe filled with quality items is better than a large wardrobe of stuff you don't like and never wear.

Start Your Day Off Feeling Amazing & Empowered

Whether you end up at the weight you want should be irrelevant. Being healthy should be your primary goal.

Eat healthy foods, exercise regularly, and practice self-love. Start your day off right by walking into a closet where you:

  • Love or at least like everything you own

  • Everything you own fits you

  • All of your clothing is in good shape

  • Similar items are all placed together in an organized fashion

Imagine walking into your closet every morning and each of the 4 bullet points above are true. It would eliminate your feeling stressed and overwhelmed.
